There are quite a handful out there based on the popular blog sites I’ve visited. Here is a recommended list of plugins for wordpress beginners:

- WP Spam Free – protects your blog from spam
- All in One SEO – Package for optimizing your content for search engines
- Ultimate Google Analytics – Google Analytics for your blog
- Google Sitemap generator – just like the name implies…
- Contact Form 7 – generate a contact form
- Really Simple Captcha – protect your forms with captcha validations
- Akismet – same with WP Spam Free, protects your comments against spammers
